So you can have the Piste of mind knowing that you will not be skiing on grass!
There is a little something for everyone in the 3 Vallees! Whether you are a beginner, or an expert looking for that off piste powder, The 3 Vallees has it all!
The 7 Resorts of the 3 Vallees (all included with your ski pass):
- Saint-Martin-de-Belleville
Want More info? - Check out the official website here
BE AWARE OF SKI LIFT CLOSING TIMES. You do not want to be in the wrong valley when the lifts start to shut down. And, when bad weather blows in, stay close to home, as many connections may not be running.
The Hotel
We will be staying at the Le Chamois D'or. This is a 3 star hotel with apartment style rooms. All rooms are equipped with practical kitchens. The hotel is located right on the slopes for a true SKI IN SKI OUT experience!
Our accommodation is on-slope. This means, if you wish, you can ski up to 9 hours every day. So, I hope you are in good shape.
Parking: PLEASE READ
Val Thorens is a car free village-you can drive to the residence but need to park the car nearby for the week. We recommend booking you parking space now. The link is https://www.valthoparc.fr Click English and choose P2 as the parking lot. It is about 400m from the residence. If you have a jet bag, make sure you sign up for a spot over 2.5 meters high. Otherwise, the 2.05 m. height works. The cost is about € 90.- for the week. Sign up EARLY as this lot will fill up.
Make sure you have winter tires, and chains are also a good idea. We needed them in 2022.
Accommodations Dinning:
Please note the units are equipped with just about all you need to cook. The grocery store in the hotel basement will be open until 21:00-22:00 , you whatever you forgot, you can easily refurbish. so you do not need to take too much “stuff” with you. However, hair dryers are not in the bathrooms.
There are about 40 restaurants in the village if you do not care to cook including one in the building.
You can get a half board meal package in this restaurant for the price of € 295.- for 7 dinners and 7 breakfasts. You must register and pay for this at least 2 weeks prior to arrival.
Additional Information:
Dogs are allowed and will cost € 80.- per pet per week.
Time change-set the clocks ahead Sat. Night after you arrive. You get another hour of daylight all week!
When you arrive, you will need to pay the local taxes, about € 12.- per person for the week, and leave your credit card number for the apt. damage deposit. This fee is returned after you check out on Saturday-the staff takes a quick look in the apt. before you go. Just leave the unit as you found it. We have NEVER had a problem here, in over 25 years.
Apres Ski
There are several on-slope apres ski venues to sample. You will find the price of this trip skyrocket if you hit them all. Snow Beach only sells drinks by the bottle. Have your rich friends take you here. It is also know as La Folie Deuce located at the top of the Pioneers and Plein Sud chairlifts. There’s a DJ speaking English no one understands and usually a saxophone player whose music everyone understands. This is the Val Thorens answer to the famous Paznauer Thaya in Ischgl.
The Chalet du Thorens may even be crazier. Get ready for dancers on giraffe stilts as well. The crowd is boisterous and 95% male. There are two plus sides to this facility-you can just about walk up to it, or down from here if you cannot find your skis. And, on the saner side of the complex, there’s the Nico Memorial Waffle Shack, always worth a few visits.
If the band, “Supersonic” happens to be playing at the Chalet de la Marine, you definitely need to hear them. Hard Rock American Style from a French Bnad. Yes, there are some advantages of globalization.
Ski Information:
But, like life in general, it is not this easy. Among the biggest advantages of skiing Val Thorens is that it has high elevations. And, it holds the snow it does get for longer. The reason for this is that the entire region has mostly north facing slopes. This being said, you can find some somewhat south facing slopes in our valley, including the Armoise, Cime, and the Combe Rosael slopes. In Meribel, you will find the earliest exposures to the sun off the Tougnette and Roc de Far regions. And, in Courchevel, the southerly slopes are off the Saulire in the direction of Chanrossa and below the Signal towards Chapelets. Of course, the lowest elevations, even if north-facing, will soften up earlier too.
Rentals & Ski School
As always I will recommend renting from MWR on Kelly for your skiing needs if you do not have your own gear! They offer season rentals for a great price!
If you do not want to rent from them then there are always plenty of options near the hotel and the hotel even has package deals that you can book directly through them!
Want to put the kiddos up for Ski School? - Here is a link to an ski lesson company that has a great reputation all over France! ESF. I am sure there are plently of other options and the hotel even gives recommendations and I believe you can book directly from their website.
Not Skiing?
Not hitting the slopes? No worries! Val Thorens has plenty of other activities that you can try! Maybe you just want to hit the Spa, or truly embrace the Après scene!
Hit up the Cosmjet Toboggan Run and enjoy 6K of sledding excellence! Its the longest one in Europe!
